Five Famous Sarees of Bangladesh

Saree is a traditional garment for the Indian subcontinent women. The saree consists of five to nine yards ( 4.5 metres to eight metres ) in length and two to four feet in breadth. The Bengali women love to wear saree on any occasion such as marriage, birthday, anniversary day or any special day. Saree is a special gift for women. Also young women look very beautiful in this dress. There are different kinds of saree in our Bangladesh. Today I share with you five types of sarees.

Muslin Saree :- Muslin is a cotton fabric type of saree. This name was taken from Mosul city, present in Iraq. This fabric was exported from Bangladesh to Middle East to Europe in the 17th century. This saree is produced from variety of cottons . There are many types of designs and colors in the sarees.

Jamdani Saree :- Jamdani Saree is one of the finest sarees in Bangladesh. This saree is produced in Dhaka district. The Jamdani Saree’s tradition is of Bengali origin. This Jamdani is made in Rupganj, Sonargaon, Shiddhirganj in Bangladesh. Its main ingredient is karpash cotton but now used cotton and silk blends. There are not any woman who doesn’t like this saree. There are various names of jamdani saree patterns are butidar, dubli lala, tersa, duria etc.

Tangail Saree :– Tangail saree is a traditional saree in Bangladesh which is made by weavers of Tangail district. This saree is very special because it is not made in machines. Its unique type of weaving is done by handloom. Weaving style, design, color and length of Tangail sarees are very exclusive and different from all other sarees. This saree’s one of the exceptional features is “Par” (Edge ). The edge is made with jori or silk yarn. A Tangail saree takes to make time around 5-7 days for weaving. Tangail saree are made of different colors and designs. This saree is in great demand for these occasions such as Gaye holud, Mehendi occasion etc.
Rajshahi Silk Saree :– Rajshahi Silk Saree is a traditional and famous saree in Bangladesh. This saree is produced in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. This saree is finest and soft fiber produced from cocoons of silk worms. It is covered in a protein called sericin. There are three types of silks such as Mulberry silk, Eri silk, and Tassar silk. Mulberry silk is the finest and most valuable silk than other sarees. There are many types of designs and colors in the sarees. It is increasing popularity day by day.
Banarasi Saree :- Banarasi Saree is a very popular saree.This saree is made by woven silk and decorated with exclusive designs. There are four types of sarees such as Pure silk ( katan ), Organza ( kora ) with zari and silk, Georgette and Shattir. This saree is mainly worn in bridal occasion. These sarees are made in Mirpur banarasi polli, Dhaka.
